How to add a Google Place to your map

You can add a Google Place as a topic to any section of your guide and it will populate on your guidebook map so you can easily help people find specific locations, restaurants, attractions and more.

How to add a Google Place

Watch the video or read on to learn how to add Google Places to your Touch Stay guidebooks:

Go to Content Hub, expand the category and subcategory where you want to add a Google Place. Click 'Add Topic' then 'Google Place'

Type the name of the place you want to add in the search bar and select it from the drop down. If you don’t see any results refresh your screen (use Ctrl+R on Windows or Cmd+R on Apple).

Details of the Google Place will usually include a photo, the address, phone number, review stars, opening hours and website link. We will also automatically add a location pin to your guidebook map. Some elements may be missing if they are not in the Google Place database, but you can add them yourself.

The default Google Places photo will be automatically to your topic. If you prefer to add your own image (sometimes the default Google image isn't great!), tick 'Don't Use Google Photo' box. You can add your own image in a moment.

Next, choose the map pin icon that will show on your guidebook map for this place. Click on the menu, to see the different options available and choose the one that best fits your place. Decide which guides you want this topic to show on by selecting the appropriate tags.

Click 'Save' to complete OR click Next to add your own extra details about this place. Here you can add your own image by clicking 'Add Media' to add more details about the place to give a personalised touch. Once you are done click 'Submit'.

Now you can see your Google place in Content Hub:

How to adjust the map zoom level

The map zoom level will adjust dynamically as you add more Google Places to your guide.

If you’ve added some Google Places but you still find the zoom level is not to your liking, you can manually adjust the zoom level to a fixed value.

Go to Guides > Guide content > Guide / Property Address & Location and click 'Adjust zoom level'. Untick the 'Use dynamic zoom' tick box and click 'Save'.

Use the [icon] option found in the “Guide / Property Address & Location” section of the Guide Details tab (click on your guide name on the Guides page). Uncheck the option to use dynamic zoom level and then adjust the map preview to show the area you would like to include on your guide’s map tab. The map preview is shaped for a mobile device, when your map tab is viewed using a laptop we’ll simply extend the map east and west to fill the screen.

Top tips:

  •  If you can’t find exactly what you are looking for then try adding some elements of the address to help narrow the search down.
  • If you really get stuck then use regular Google search to find the place and see if you can see it on the right hand side of the page. For example, see the picture below for the Olive Tree in Bath.
  • Make sure you type this exact place name, in our example “Olive Tree Restaurant”, in the Google Place box in Touch Stay and it will appear!
