How to set the Cover Photo

The cover photo is the background image on the front page (the cover screen) of your guides. There is a default image that you can easily change to your own image.

Landscape

1920 px wide × 1080 px high

Mobile (optional)

Portrait

Use a JPG or PNG file. Uploaded images must be under 20 MB. An image that's 1920 px wide but less than 1080 px high is rejected.

For more general information about photo format and size requirements, see Image format and size requirements.

In the new Hub

  1. Open Guidebooks, select your guidebook and click the Appearance tab.

  2. Find the cover photo card: Front page customizations on Guidebook 2.0, or Cover background photo on the legacy design.

  3. Click Change on the desktop or mobile photo.

  4. Choose New photo from drive to upload one, New photo from URL to use a web address, or Select photo to reuse a photo you've already uploaded.

In the legacy Hub: Desktop Cover Photo

Go to Guides and click the guide name to open the Guide details page. Click 'Edit desktop photo'. Your cover photo must be in landscape orientation and at least 1920 × 1080 px.

This photo will automatically be resized to fit the mobile view, but you can upload another portrait-oriented photo for the mobile view if you wish.

In the legacy Hub: Mobile Cover Photo

If you prefer to set a specific image for when your guide is viewed on mobile (e.g. because you don’t like the automatic cropping of your desktop cover photo), then you can set a specific mobile cover photo. This needs to be in portrait orientation and at least 680 px wide × 1080 px high.

Want to Use Your Airbnb Lead Photo?

If you’d like your Airbnb lead photo (or any Airbnb photo) to be your cover photo, there’s an easy way…

  1. Open the photo options on your chosen guide: Change in the new Hub, or ‘Edit desktop photo’ in the legacy Hub.

  2. Choose ‘New photo from URL’.

  3. On the Airbnb listing, right-click on the image you want to use and select ‘copy image address’.

  4. Paste that image address (the URL) into the box that appears in step 2.

  5. Now, a small quirk… at the end of the URL in the box, you’ll see w=1200 (it might be w=another number). Change it to w=1920.

  6. Click ‘Submit’.

Why do you have to change it to w=1920? Simply because our minimum size is 1920 px wide × 1080 px high, and this little hack makes sure the width is big enough. It only sets the width, so the photo must still end up at least 1080 px high: a very wide, short photo can still be rejected. Choose a photo that is not wider than 16:9 (for example 3:2 or 4:3).
