Why aren’t all my categories and subcategories showing up in my guide?
If a category or subcategory isn’t appearing in your guide, don’t worry, this is usually caused by one of two things:
- There are no topics inside it
- The topics don’t have the correct tag applied
Let’s check both.
Step 1: Make sure there is at least one topic (with the correct tag)
Categories and subcategories will not display in the guest view if they are empty.
To fix this:
- Go to Content Hub
- Expand the Category
- Expand the Subcategory
- Click Add Topic
- Scroll down to the Tags section
- Select “All Guides” (or the relevant property tag)
- Click Save
⚠️ If the topic does not have an active tag, it will not appear in the guide, even if content has been added.
💡 Tips:
- If you’re building your Local Area, the Google Places feature is the fastest way to populate it.
- To learn more about the Categories, Subcategories, and Topics, take a look at this article.
Step 2: Check that the topic has the correct tag
Even if a topic exists, it won’t show in the guide unless it has an active tag.
If you have a single guide:
- Open the topic
- Scroll to the Tags section
- Make sure “All Guides” (or “Tag 1” on older accounts) is active
- Save
Tip 💡
- Active tags appear in full colour.
- Inactive tags appear greyed out.
If you have multiple guides:
The topic tag must match the tag assigned to the guide.
You’ll need to:
- Check the Tag assigned to the topic (in Content Hub)
- Check the Tag assigned to the guide (in Guide Content settings)
- Make sure they match
If the tags don’t match, the topic will not display in that guide.
See these articles for help in managing multiple guides.
Still not showing?
If you’ve created a topic and confirmed the tags are correct but the section is still missing, let us know the:
- Guide name
- Category
- Subcategory
We’ll be happy to check it for you 😊
