How to add external links to your guides

Add links to websites, local businesses or documents in your guidebook topics, as clickable text or clickable images.

You can add a link to any webpage, such as your website, local businesses, PDFs and other documents, or anything your readers might find useful. Links can be clickable text or clickable images.

Table of contents:

How to add an external link to a topic

First, open the topic where you want to add the link:

  • In the new Hub: go to Guidebooks, select your guidebook and open the Guidebook Content tab. Click the topic to select it, then click it again to open the editor (or click the three dots (⋯) → Edit). Work in the Content tab.

  • In the legacy Hub: in Content Hub, click the edit pencil next to the topic title, or use the 3 dots menu for the topic.

The link button and the Insert/Edit Link window work the same way in both Hubs:

  1. Write the text you want to become the link, for example “this link”, and highlight it.

  2. Click the link button (chain icon) in the content editor toolbar.

  1. In URL, paste the full web address of the page you want to link to (copy everything from the address bar at the top of that page). Check Text to display.

  2. Under Open link in..., choose New window (the default) or Current window.

  3. Click Save.

  1. Save the topic: Save Changes in the new Hub, or Save in the legacy Hub.

You can add as many external links as you like to any topic. When your readers click a link, it takes them straight to that webpage.

How to create an external link as an image

You can also add external links as clickable images. Instead of clicking on text, your readers click on an image, just like clicking a button on a website.

  1. Open the topic (see above) and add the image you want to become the link inside the topic text, using the image icon in the editor toolbar. See How to add images to your guide.

  1. Click the image to select it, then click the link button (chain icon).

  2. In URL, paste the web address you want the image to link to, choose an option under Open link in... and click Save.

  1. Save the topic: Save Changes in the new Hub, or Save in the legacy Hub.

See below for a video showing how this is done (recorded in the legacy Hub):
