Table of contents:
General settings vs. Guidebook defaults
These two areas serve different purposes. Here's the distinction:
| General settings | Guidebook defaults |
What it controls | Account-wide options that aren't guidebook-specific | Standard values used by every guidebook that has Use Guidebook defaults switched on, new and existing |
Can be overridden per guidebook? | Mostly no — these apply across your whole account. Translations are the exception: the mode (Disabled, Manual translations or Google Translate) is account-wide, but with Manual translations each guidebook chooses which of your languages it shows, in the Translations & Languages card on its Settings tab | Yes — switch Use Guidebook defaults off on the relevant section of a guidebook |
Examples | Guidebook experience, translations, OTA compliance, custom domain, downloads | Contact details, check-in times, branding, logo |

How to get there
Open General settings from the left sidebar. It opens on the Guidebook experience section.
What's inside General settings
General settings can have up to seven sections. Some only appear for certain accounts, as noted below. Changes in these sections save automatically — there's no Save button.
1. Guidebook experience
Choose which guest design your guidebooks use (Guidebook 2.0 or the legacy design). See How to switch to Guidebook 2.0.
2. Translations
Control whether and how your guidebook content is translated for guests.
Option | What it does |
Disabled | No translation — guests see your content in the language you wrote it in |
Manual translations | You provide your own translations for guidebook content, in the languages you add |
Google Translate | Automatic translation via Google Translate — guests can switch languages when viewing your guidebook. Not available on master accounts. |
To configure translations:
Open General settings and go to Translations.
Click the option you want. It's saved straight away.
⚠️ Good to know:
Switching away from Manual translations asks you to confirm, because your guidebooks' display languages are reset to English only.
Removing a language also asks you to confirm, because its translations are permanently removed. English can't be removed.
Users with the Viewer role can see this section but can't change it.
💡 Tip: Google Translate is the fastest way to make your guidebook accessible to international guests. Manual translations give you more control over accuracy but require more work.
3. Guest data processing
Only shown for accounts using Guidebook 2.0. Settings for how guest data collected in your guidebook is handled. See Guest Registration explained.
4. Notifications
Only shown for accounts using Guidebook 2.0 whose plan includes Guest Registration.
5. OTA Compliance Centre
Manage how your guidebook behaves for guests from online travel agencies (OTAs). Changes save automatically a moment after you make them.
Restricted booking sources — the booking sources these rules apply to. At least one must be selected.
Marketing consent settings — for the First impression topic, Email capture topic, Rating topic and Contact collection pop-up, choose Hide or Unrestricted.
External reviews settings — Disable redirect in "Leave a review pop-up": Disabled or Unrestricted.
Hide sensitive topics — topics to hide from guests who booked through a restricted source.
6. Custom domain
Use your own subdomain (for example guides.yourdomain.com) for your guide links. Not shown on master accounts. See How to set up a custom domain for your guide links.
7. Downloads
Download reports for your account as CSV or XLSX files:
Include QR Code on PDF — a switch that adds your guidebook's QR code to the guidebook PDF (not shown on master accounts)
Quick Share Links to your Guides
Invitations for your Guides
Deep Links to sections of your Guides — separate downloads for category, subcategory and topic links
Rating/Email Capture Topic responses — filter by topic, guide and time period before downloading
Download contact collection entries — filter by guide and time period before downloading
Settings you won't find here
If you're looking for settings that are specific to a single guidebook (like PIN access, review pop-ups, or meta titles), those live on the Settings tab inside each guidebook.
If you're looking for standard values your guidebooks use (like contact details, branding, or check-in times), those live in Guidebook defaults.
I'm looking for... | Where to find it |
Guidebook experience, translations, OTA compliance, custom domain, downloads | General settings |
Review pop-up, PIN access, guidebook URL, meta title | Settings tab (inside each guidebook) |
Default contact details, branding, check-in times, logo | Guidebook defaults |
Tags, Field Codes, Custom Elements, Content Hub | Account library |
What's different from the legacy Hub?
Legacy Hub | New Hub |
Account-wide options mixed in with per-guidebook settings — hard to tell which was which | Account-wide options separated into their own General settings page |
Had to navigate through multiple settings pages to find account-level options | One dedicated page — easy to find and set once for the whole account |
Contact details and branding could be set once for the account, and guides used them unless you switched that off for a guide. Many other settings were set guide by guide | General settings = applies to everything; Guidebook defaults = applies to all guidebooks that use defaults (with per-guidebook override). Guidebook defaults cover more settings than the legacy Hub did, such as Wi-Fi and Timelines |
