What it does

A widget with missing information stays visible to you, with a message explaining what's needed and, in most cases, a button to fix it, such as Add access code or Add Wi-Fi details. Your guest never sees that widget until the issue is resolved.

The messages you may see

  • This widget needs property location to work. — button Add property location.

  • This widget needs check-in / out dates to work. — this card currently has no button. Open your guidebook's Check-in & Wi-Fi access tab, set the check-in and check-out times, then return to Timelines.

  • This widget needs Wi-Fi info to work. — button Add Wi-Fi details.

  • This widget needs Access code to work. — button Add access code, which opens the widget's own settings.

  • This widget needs access instructions to work. — button Add access instructions, which also opens the widget's settings.

  • This widget needs Store to be enabled. — button Set up Store.

  • This widget needs Viator to be enabled. — button Set up Viator.

  • This widget needs the review pop-up to be enabled. — button Enable Leave a review, which takes you to the guidebook's Settings.

  • This widget needs at least one social media link. — button Add social media link.

  • Widget does not contain any items. — a content widget such as Useful info, Recommended places or Recommended store items with nothing added to it yet. Click Add items to open the widget's editor.

Food delivery services is also hidden when your property's country is missing or no delivery partner covers it. This one has no button.

How to fix it

  1. Open the moment containing the blocked widget.

  2. Read the message on the widget's card, such as This widget needs Wi-Fi info to work.

  3. Select the button on the card, such as Add access code or Set up Store, and complete the missing information.

  4. Return to Timelines — the widget appears to guests once the issue is resolved.

Good to know

  • A blocked widget is never sent to your guest's guidebook — it isn't just hidden in their browser — so fixing it is the only way to make it appear.

  • A widget can show more than one message if several things are missing.

  • Messages only show for widgets that are switched on. If you hide a widget, its messages disappear until you show it again.

  • On Guidebook defaults → Timelines the buttons that lead to a guidebook page aren't offered, because no single guidebook is open there.

  • On Guidebook defaults → Timelines, a code you enter with Add access code is one code for every guidebook. A code added on a single guidebook only shows while that guidebook has Use Guidebook defaults switched off for Timelines.

  • To keep using Guidebook defaults and show a different access code for each property, create a Guide custom field code such as {{door_code}} (see Field Codes Explained). Set each guidebook's value under its Settings → Field Codes → Edit, then enter only {{door_code}} in the Access code box of the widget in Guidebook defaults. This widget needs Access code to work may still show in Guidebook defaults, because it only checks the defaults widget, but each guidebook shows its own code to guests.
