Widgets are ready-made topics, such as weather, ratings and local experiences, that you can add to any subcategory without building the content yourself. Browse widgets lists them all in one place, so you can pick one and add it in a couple of clicks.
ℹ️ This article covers the New Hub.
Table of contents:
Before you start
Adding a widget creates a topic, so you need a role that can edit content (Owner, Admin, Team Admin or Editor). Users with the Viewer role can't add topics.
If your guidebook's Guidebook Content tab says This guidebook has no tags yet, assign a tag to the guidebook first. See Tags On Guides Explained.
Email capture, Star rating and First impression depend on your plan. See Widgets with a lock icon.
How to add a widget
Open Guidebooks from the left sidebar, select your guidebook and click the Guidebook Content tab.
Expand the category and subcategory where you want the widget to appear.
At the bottom of the subcategory, click Add Topic to. The button ends with the name of the subcategory.
On the Widgets card, click Browse widgets. (Choose Blank instead if you'd rather write a topic from scratch.)
Find the widget you want and click Add. On a computer, the Add button appears when you hover over the widget's row.
Finish setting up the widget. What you see next depends on the widget you chose, as described below.
💡 Click the back arrow at the top of the widget list to return to the Add Topic to options.
💡 You can follow the same steps from Account library in the left sidebar to add a widget to your account's content. When you add a widget from inside a guidebook, the new topic automatically gets that guidebook's tags, so it appears in that guidebook's content. A widget added from Account library doesn't get a guidebook's tags, so add a tag that your guidebooks use.
The widgets in the list
Browse widgets currently lists seven widgets:
Google Place — shows a Google place on a map. Clicking Add opens the Google Place form, where you search for the place and choose a category.

For Weather Widget, Tide Times Widget, Email capture, Star rating and First impression, clicking Add opens a new topic with that widget's settings. Nothing is added to your guidebook until you save the topic.
How many of each widget you can add
Some widgets can only be added once. When a widget has reached its limit, its row in Browse widgets is dimmed and can't be selected.
Google Place — no limit.
Weather Widget and Tide Times Widget — one of each in your whole account. Once you have one anywhere in your content, that widget is dimmed in every subcategory.
Viator widget, Email capture, Star rating and First impression — one of each per subcategory. A subcategory that already has one shows that widget dimmed, but you can still add the same widget in a different subcategory.
Widgets with a lock icon
Email capture, Star rating and First impression are included on some plans only. If your plan doesn't include one of them, its row shows a lock icon instead of the Add button. Click the row to see the plans available.
The other widgets in the list don't have a lock icon.
Good to know
The widgets in Browse widgets are topics in your guidebook content. The widgets you add to the moments in Timelines are separate. See Understanding the Timelines widget catalog.
If the widget you want is dimmed, check How many of each widget you can add. If it shows a lock icon, see Widgets with a lock icon.
