How to add a Google Place to your map (new Hub)

In the new Hub, you can add Google Places as topics in your guidebook so they appear on your guidebook map. Here's how to add and edit a Google Place, choose where it shows, and adjust your map zoom level.

ℹ️ This article covers the new Hub. If you're still on the legacy Hub, see How to add a Google Place to your map.

You can add a Google Place as a topic in any section of your guidebook. It appears on your guidebook map, so guests can find restaurants, attractions and other places near you.

How to add a Google Place

  1. Open Guidebooks from the left sidebar and select your guidebook.

  2. Click the Guidebook Content tab.

  3. Expand the category and subcategory where you want the place to appear, for example Local Area Guide.

  4. Click Add Topic to [your subcategory name].

5. Under Widgets, click Browse widgets.

6. Select Google Place and click Add.

Next, fill in the Google Place form:

  1. In Place name, type the name of the place in the Search for a place box and select it from the list. The address appears next to the search box.

  2. In Place category, choose the map pin that best fits the place.

  3. Check that Place on a map shows the right location.

  4. Under Photo of place from Google, keep Use this photo ticked to show Google's photo, or untick it if you'd rather add your own image.

  5. Click Save.

👉 Good to know: the Save button appears once you've selected a place, and you can click it once you've chosen a Place category. After saving, the topic editor opens so you can add more details straight away.

What comes from Google

When you select a place, Touch Stay takes these details from Google:

  • Name, used as the topic title. You can change it at any time.

  • Address and map location, which place the pin on your guidebook map.

  • Photo, if Google has one for this place.

  • Place category, which we suggest from the type of place where we can. You can pick a different one.

How to edit a Google Place

  1. In the Guidebook Content tab, click the name of the Google Place, or click the three dots (⋯) next to it and select Edit topic.

  2. Make your changes in the tab you need (see below).

  3. Click Save.

The topic editor has four tabs:

  • Google Place: search for a different place to replace this one, or change the Place category to use a different map pin.

  • Content: change the Title guests see, add your own recommendations in Content, and use Change under Featured media to replace the photo with your own image or video.

  • Advanced: add a Tripadvisor review link.

  • Visibility: choose which guidebooks show this place (see the next section).

Choose where the place shows

A Google Place you add from a guidebook starts out in that guidebook only. To change this, open the place and go to the Visibility tab:

  • Shown in guidebooks: add the place to other guidebooks.

  • Tags: show the place in every guidebook with a matching tag.

  • Access level: choose Always visible or Visible only during the stay.

👉 Good to know: if a place is used in more than one guidebook, you'll see a warning before you edit it. Changes to shared content apply to every guidebook it's in. You can manage all your shared content in the Account library.

How to adjust the map zoom level

By default, your guidebook map zooms automatically to fit your home pin and places. To set a fixed view instead:

  1. Open your guidebook and click the Property info tab.

  2. In the Location & Address section, find Map zoom level.

  3. Switch off Dynamic zoom.

  4. Move and zoom the map until it shows the area you want guests to see.

  5. Click Save.

Top tips

  • If you can't find the place you want, add part of the address to your search, such as the street or town.

  • If Google's photo doesn't show the place at its best, untick Use this photo and add your own under Featured media.
